CIBTAC; The Education Department of BABTAC
CIBTAC has been established for almost 30 years as an international examination board, specialising in awarding diplomas in beauty, complementary therapies and well-being.
It remains UK based and was originally developed as the Education section of BABTAC, (British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology), a leading professional body for therapists in the UK. CIBTAC has grown rapidly during those years, expanding its portfolio from traditional beauty treatments into spa, well-being, diet and nutrition, sports therapy and complementary therapy courses. It is now firmly established and reputed worldwide, from China and Japan to South Africa, New Zealand and Europe. CIBTAC works closely with many government education departments around the world to closely match national and international occupational and academic standards.
CIBTAC courses are easily accessible to prospective students and highly attainable for those determined to achieve success. CIBTAC schools and colleges are accredited for their excellence in education and are regularly monitored for quality assurance. CIBTAC courses allow schools and colleges a great deal of flexibility in delivery and organisation. CIBTAC is recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as a national awarding body in the UK. CIBTAC strives for a high standard of customer service, support and good communications with its schools and colleges from the first enquiry, through accreditation and onwards.
As a non-profit making company CIBTAC is able to re-invest its income for the benefit of its accredited schools, colleges and learners. It prides itself on its high standards of education and stringent quality controls.

Principles of Examinations
CIBTAC only issues qualifications to candidates after they have
successfully undertaken an externally set examination that is conducted
in accordance with the examination criteria and CIBTAC’s published
standards for each qualification.
CIBTAC’s examination procedures clearly establish whether the candidate
has reached the set performance levels and that the evidence is
authentic and reliable.
- CIBTAC has detailed examination criteria for practical examinations.
- Candidates are marked individually against the examination
criteria by an external examiner.
- The skills demonstrated cover the full range, as detailed in
the syllabus.
- Theoretical testing is achieved through externally set objective
test papers.
- The theoretical tests are marked and graded externally according
to the CIBTAC mark scheme and grading system.
- Case studies where applicable, are marked internally by the
School/College according to the CIBTAC criteria and moderated
by the external CIBTAC examiner.
Only those Schools/Colleges that meet the very high standards set
by CIBTAC are awarded accreditation.
Successful applicants gain:
- Status for their School/College
- Credibility for their training programmes.
- Access to CIBTAC promotional material
- Access to CIBTAC support systems
- Increased marketing opportunities
CIBTAC Certificate of Accreditation.
The CIBTAC Certificate of accreditation is renewed and validated
annually.
Only those Schools and Colleges who have registered and paid their
annual registration fee will be issued with these.
If a School/College lapses on the annual registration fee they will
be removed from the CIBTAC data base and they will no longer be
eligible to offer the CIBTAC qualifications.
A School/College must conduct at least one schedule of examinations
in a two year period to maintain their accreditation with CIBTAC.
Those Schools/Colleges who do not achieve this will not be eligible
to renew their accreditation.
CIBTAC Diplomas
Once CIBTAC accredited, the School/College must adhere to the CIBTAC
syllabi and abide by all the CIBTAC rules and regulations.
The requirements for each individual course of study are clearly
detailed in the individual syllabi.
Quality Control
CIBTAC accredited School/Colleges are monitored on a regular basis
by the External CIBTAC examiners.
The School/College Monitoring report form is completed at the end
of each examination schedule by the Examiner, in liaison with the
Principal, or a designated member of staff.
Areas in which the School/College is not meeting the requirements
of CIBTAC are highlighted by the Examiner and an action plan, addressing
these areas, is drawn up.
Areas of considerable concern will be followed up by a letter from
the Director of Education.
Subsequent CIBTAC Examiners will review the issues previously raised
and verify that the School/College has actioned all points.
Failure to address the action points may result in the School/College
being returned to probationary status and ultimately may result
in the School/College being removed from the CIBTAC list of accredited
Schools.
